Q. Is there an easy way to apply the mat to a
CD?
A. Just center the middle of the mat, shiny-side-down, on a CD while the CD is still in its case
(doesn't have to be perfectly centered, just as close as you can), and then let the mat flop
down. Rub the mat gently to remove any large air pockets and to adhere it to the CD. It gets
quite easy to do after a few tries.
Here's another method:
1. Lay the mat dull-side-down on a spare CD, DVD, or CD-ROM. 2. Center it.
3. Lay your CD label-side-down on the shiny side of the mat. 4. Remove the first CD and you're all set.
To remove the mat, just peel the mat from the CD and it's ready to be used again.
Q. Will the grungebuster stick to CD's after it gets old?
A. After a while, you may find the mat not "sticking" as well as when it was new—this is
because the mat gradually collects dust particles from the CD labels. Just rinse the shiny
side of the mat under running water and it will work like new again.
Q. Shouldn't the CD mat be thicker?
A. If the mat were thicker, it would be easier to handle. Here are several reasons,
however, why we believe it should remain thin:
1. The grungebuster CD Mat performs about perfect the way it is.
2. The mat's purpose is to absorb vibrations, which it does quite well; if it were thicker,
the material would begin to influence with its own resonance.
3. In some CD drive mechanisms, the CD slides away from the top clamp rather than
dropping straight down when the drawer opens. A thicker mat would be apt to jam up
in this type of mechanism.
4. With a thicker mat, you would not be able to see through it to identify your CD.
5. The components of this material are extremely expensive. A thicker mat would cost more.
